"My entire department got laid off and then our jobs reappeared online two weeks later"

In this latest story, a laid-off worker explained that their company announced a cost-cutting restructure that resulted in roughly half of their department being laid off, including them.
They were surprised to find that their own job was listed some weeks later while they were looking for jobs to apply to, except the ruse was thinly veiled. Several vacancies had been listed on the company's careers page that closely matched the roles that had supposedly been eliminated. After speaking with a former coworker, they were told that management described the positions as "strategically different," But, reading the description of the role, the responsibilities appeared virtually identical. They were left wondering what the point of the entire thing really was, since they were told that the positions were being eliminated but it seemed to be otherwise. Many companies got addicted to increased revenue during the years following “certain-global-events” that happened during 2020 and affected the years just after. True, the economy suffered, and inflation went through the roof, but many industries, such as tech and entertainment, thrived from the fact that everyone was sitting at home with nothing to do. But, as everyone returned to their daily lives, profits languished in more recent years. Which left managers and executives, who had forecasted that the record profits were somehow going to increase forever.
What happened to all that extra revenue? Well, you think it would still be around somewhere to pad things out when the company's operations got tighter. Instead, it got cashed out in the form of golden parachutes for departing executives and in the board's pockets, while the front-line staff who carried the company through found themselves facing not promotions or raises, but layoffs as cuts to the company's bottom line became the norm.
